172 officials have been promoted from deputy secretary to joint secretary. An order in this regard was issued by the Public Administration Ministry on Thursday afternoon.
The order states that, upon promotion to the government’s joint secretary position, the officials are being appointed as officers on special duty (joint secretary) at the Public Administration Ministry.
It further states that if an official’s office or workplace has already changed from what is mentioned in the promotion order, they must submit their joining letter specifying the name and address of their current office.
It adds that if any adverse or differing information about an official emerges later, the authority reserves the right to make necessary amendments to or cancel this order with respect to that official.
Officials promoted to the government’s joint secretary position may submit their joining letters directly to the senior secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, or online via email to sal@mopa.gov.bd.
Earlier in the morning, a summary of the promotions was sent to the prime minister’s office. The promotions were issued after the prime minister’s approval.
The Public Administration Ministry said the promotions to joint secretary cover officials from the 24th and 25th BCS (Administration) cadre batches who had been left out of earlier promotion rounds.
More than 190 officials from the 24th batch have been recommended for promotion from deputy secretary to joint secretary. As per rules, their promotion to the next tier (additional secretary) is also under review.
Previously, 80 officials from the 24th batch had been promoted, leaving 138 pending. A total of 190 officials (from administration and other cadres) were considered for this round of promotion.
Meanwhile, of a total of 170 officials from the 25th batch, 80 were considered this time. The rest will be promoted later.
