China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Sun Lei, has said the United States has once again pushed the world toward a dangerous situation through its attack on Iran. He made the comment in a speech to the UN Security Council on Tuesday evening.
There was a heated exchange between the Chinese ambassador and the US ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz. Waltz alleged that Iran was not doing enough to stop certain goods — items that can be used for both civilian and military purposes — from reaching Iran and the Houthis in Yemen.
He said Iran, and in some cases certain Chinese companies and organisations, had violated a UN arms embargo, but that little action had been taken against them.
In response, Sun Lei said the allegation had no basis, adding that China maintained strict controls on the export of such goods.
