A truck helper, Monir Hossen, 21, was killed when a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan and a goods-laden truck collided head-on on the Pabna-Kushtia highway in the Bhairamara area of Kushtia. He was the son of Suruj Ali of the Sariakandi area in Bogura district. The accident took place at the Dashmile area of the Bahirchar union at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to witnesses and local people, a long-distance Shyamoli Paribahan passenger bus was heading toward Kushtia at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday. A truck loaded with jute sacks, coming from the opposite direction and heading toward the Lalon Shah Bridge, reached the spot known as Dashmile on the Pabna-Kushtia highway when its front tyre burst. The truck instantly lost control, and the two vehicles collided head-on. The truck helper, Monir Hossen, died on the spot.
Three people were seriously injured in the accident and are under treatment in hospital. A severe traffic jam built up on the road after the accident, which Bhairamara police later brought under control by going to the scene.
The officer-in-charge of Bhairamara police station, Muhammad Jahedur Rahman, said: ‘On receiving news of the accident, we went quickly to the scene, then cleared the traffic jam and informed the highway police.’
The officer-in-charge of the Kushtia Chowrhas Highway police station, Sheikh Sekendar Ali, said a Shyamoli Paribahan bus and a goods-laden truck had collided head-on at the 10-mile point of the Pabna-Kushtia highway in the morning, in which the truck helper had died on the spot. The body would be handed over to relatives and the necessary steps taken in accordance with the law, he said.
