University education is not limited to obtaining a certificate; its main purpose is to develop oneself into a humane and enlightened person, said Saeed Al Noman, founder vice-chairman of East Delta University and member of parliament for Chattogram-10.
He made the remarks as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the ‘EDUDS 3rd National Debate Competition 2026’ held in Chattogram on Saturday, June 20.
Saeed Al Noman said that, in education, the most important thing is not just a degree but building oneself as a person. Greater than a degree, he said, is illuminating oneself in the light of knowledge and becoming a good human being.
Addressing university students, he said they must prepare themselves to be of benefit to the people of society and the country alongside their studies. That, he said, is the main goal of a university. Highlighting the importance of campus-based co-curricular activities, he said debate, culture and sport develop students’ leadership qualities and broaden their thinking.
He added that in the age of artificial intelligence, emotional intelligence is becoming important. Debate broadens people’s outlook and increases empathy, which helps build a humane society.
