Two young men have been accused of taking a woman to a secluded place in Saghata upazila, Gaibandha, on the pretext of seeing her home, and gang-raping her. Police have arrested both in the case filed over the incident.
The woman has been admitted to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital for treatment and the necessary examinations.
Saghata police station officer-in-charge Md Durul Hoda confirmed this on Sunday afternoon.
The two arrested are Saikat, 28, son of Md Alam of Helencha village in Saghata upazila, and Mohammad Mustakim, 20, son of Md Badal Mia of Ullasonatala (Hajipara) village.
Police and other sources said the woman is a mother of one. On Saturday she was returning home from her sister’s house in Gobindaganj when, on reaching the Bonarpara area, she spoke with Saikat, who offered to see her home. He then took her by van to a secluded place in the Helencha area. Mustakim is alleged to have been with him.
According to the complaint, the two men raped her at about 10pm at a disused brick kiln in the Helencha area of Bonarpara union. People nearby heard her cries, came and rescued her. They caught the two accused and informed the police, to whom the men were handed over.
Police sources said a case was filed at Saghata police station on Sunday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Officer-in-charge Md Durul Hoda said the two accused had been arrested in the rape case and sent to court, and the woman had been sent to hospital for the necessary examinations. Further legal action will follow the investigation.
