An elderly teacher named Nurul Alam, also known as Lutfar Master, 65, has been killed after being run over by a truck in Chaugachha, Jashore. He was the son of the late Rafi Uddin of Fatehpur village in Dhuliani union of the upazila, and a retired teacher of Kushtia-Fatehpur Government Primary School.
Witnesses said Nurul Alam was travelling through the town by van at about 11am on Tuesday. When he reached the front of the Islami Bank, a truck hit the van carrying him. He was crushed under the rear wheel of the moving truck.
Local people rescued him and took him to Chaugachha hospital. When his condition worsened he was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Jashore, where he died under treatment at about 2pm.
The truck and its driver, Shahin Hossain, are in police custody. Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Chaugachha police station, confirmed the incident.
