HABIGANJ — The Bangladesh Islami Front candidate for Habiganj-4, controversial Islamic preacher Md. Giasuddin Taheri, has reported total assets of about 17.9 million taka. His main income sources are business, agriculture and bank interest, according to the affidavit he filed with the Election Commission.

Taheri said in the affidavit that he holds no assets in the names of his dependents. The affidavit lists no gold, cash or bank deposits in his wife’s name either. He is a businessman by profession, and his wife is a homemaker. The affidavit states that she holds no movable or immovable property.

Among movable assets, Taheri reported annual income of 26,400 taka from agriculture, 791,000 taka from business and 22,892 taka from bank interest. He holds 41,286 taka in cash and 763,606 taka in bank deposits. He also reported 31 bhori of gold in his name, valued at 600,000 taka. Furniture is valued at 500,000 taka. His total movable assets come to 1,904,892 taka.

Among immovable assets, Taheri holds farmland purchased for 13.239 million taka and valued today at 16.039 million taka. Combined movable and immovable assets total 17,943,892 taka.

The affidavit also says no assets, gold, furniture or cash are held in the name of his wife or any other dependent.

In personal details, Giasuddin Taheri lists his permanent address as Bhajra village in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla district. His in-laws live in Madhabpur of Habiganj, and he is contesting the seat from that constituency.

On legal matters, Taheri said three cases are pending against him. He claimed all three were filed after Aug. 5, 2024.
