HABIGANJ — Unidentified attackers threw bricks at the motorcade of Kazi Mawlana Mukhlichur Rahman, district chief of Jamaat-e-Islami and the party’s candidate for Habiganj-4, in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district. The front windshield of his vehicle was shattered. No one was injured.

The attack happened Monday evening near Kasimnagar Bazar in the upazila.

“We were returning peacefully after a public outreach event,” Mukhlichur said. “Suddenly, bricks were hurled at the car. We were not in the vehicle at the time. We do not know who carried out the attack. The matter has been reported to police.”

Habiganj Superintendent of Police AANM Sazidur Rahman said an investigation is under way. “Legal action will be taken against those found responsible,” he said.

Jamaat-e-Islami has called local protests over the attack. Party leaders said: “This planned incident must be thoroughly investigated and those responsible brought to justice. Otherwise, the administration will bear responsibility.”
