HABIGANJ — Masked attackers beat homeowner Abdus Shahid, 70, and set fire to his house in Charhamua village of Lashkarpur union ward 10 in Habiganj Sadar upazila. The attack caused hundreds of thousands of taka in damages. Shahid was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition. The attack occurred late Monday night and has spread fear through the area.
Local sources said Md. Abdus Shahid had finished dinner and gone to bed with his family as usual. Late at night, a group of masked attackers broke down the door with locally made weapons and forced their way inside. When the homeowner woke up, they beat him severely to intimidate the others. As they left, the attackers threatened that if Shahid’s son, Md. Shamir Mia, returned from abroad, they would kill him and dispose of the body. They then poured petrol outside the house and set it on fire. Hearing the cries from inside, neighbors rushed in and brought the fire under control. Shahid was taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
