NAOGAON — Unidentified people set fire outside the gate of Grameen Bank’s Kachua Bazar branch office in Naogaon’s Raninagar upazila early Wednesday, bank officials said.
The fire was set around 1 a.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 18) at the Gahelapur area of the upazila.
Lotus Hossain, senior officer at the Kachua Bazar branch, said: “When we got up in the early morning, we saw smoke rising from the front gate of the office. When we asked night guard Majibur Rahman, he said it was nothing much. Someone had set fire to four or five sacks in front of the office. He extinguished it, put it aside and went to pray. We have informed the higher authorities.”
Abdul Hafiz Mohammad Raihan, officer-in-charge of Raninagar police station, said no fire took place at Grameen Bank. Smoke was rising from the road there, he said.
