The Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) has unveiled a new logo and website. It has also set 2 January 2027 as the date of its next national convention.
The logo and website were unveiled on Saturday at a meeting of the presidium committee, the party’s highest policymaking forum, at its central office at Asad Gate. The meeting took decisions on the date of the national convention, the reform and amendment of the party constitution, the party’s participation in the coming local government elections, and JAGPA’s role and future course in the 11-party alliance.
After the three-hour closed-door meeting, JAGPA president Barrister Tasmia Prodhan MP said: “We talk of reforming the constitution, but we leave many gaps in our own party’s constitution. Reform is needed at every level to build a Bangladesh free of hegemony and autocracy. So while a party’s constitution is usually amended, this time we have recast and reformed it. It has been decided that, as a partner in the 11-party alliance, we will play a stronger part in movements and struggles.”
JAGPA general secretary Prof Iqbal Hossain said: “JAGPA’s national convention will be held on 2 January, God willing. Before that all of JAGPA’s organisational district and city committees across the country will be reorganised. This national convention will be colourful and will be organised in a fully democratic process.”
JAGPA spokesman Rashed Prodhan said: “JAGPA’s new logo and website, unveiled today, combine the heritage of the earlier generation with the needs of the new. In the local government elections, wherever JAGPA has able candidates for union parishads, upazila parishads and municipalities, they will stand. But JAGPA will not put up candidates in the city corporation elections; it will support the more able candidates of the Jamaat-led 11 parties.”
The meeting was chaired by Tasmia Prodhan. Taking part were general secretary and presidium member Prof Iqbal Hossain; first vice-president and presidium member Rashed Prodhan; first joint general secretary and presidium member Mahidur Rahman Babla; and presidium members Asadur Rahman Khan, freedom fighter Syed Shafiqul Islam, VP Md Mujibur Rahman, Haji Md Hasmat Ullah and Md Shamim Akhter Pilot.
