Magnitude 6.2 earthquake jolts the Philippines

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the southern coast of the Philippines on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The fresh tremor came a week after a powerful earthquake in the same area killed at least 65 people. The news agency AFP reported the latest quake from Manila.

According to the USGS, the earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao island at 5:18 p.m. local time.

The epicenter of the quake was 112 km below the surface.
