The Election Commission (EC) has begun the work of setting up polling stations ahead of the local government elections, and the final list of polling stations will be published on 27 August.

The information was given in a letter signed by EC senior assistant secretary Rashid Miya on Wednesday. According to the letter, under the set schedule, a draft list of polling stations will be published on 10 August. The deadline for submitting claims and objections to this list is 18 August, after which the received applications must be verified and settled by 23 August. Completing all the steps, the EC will publish the final list of proposed polling stations on 27 August.

The letter said that, under the “Policy on the Establishment and Management of Polling Stations in Local Government Institution Elections, 2025” — drawn up for the elections to city corporations, municipalities, union parishads, upazila parishads and zila parishads — the list of polling stations must be finalised and published as a gazette at least 25 days before voting.

The letter directed the election officials concerned to ensure maximum use of existing infrastructure in setting up polling stations, and in particular to avoid proposals to build temporary polling rooms where there was scope to set them up inside permanent buildings.

The letter directed that the final list of polling stations be sent to the Election Support-3 branch through the relevant regional election officer, and added that hard and soft copies of the list must also be submitted within seven days of the announcement of the election schedule.
