Government orders wider solar-power use in government offices

The government has decided to ensure wider use of solar power in government offices. The Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Planning Commission and the Finance Division must run the bulk of the electricity they use on solar power, and other government offices must ensure the maximum use of solar power in phases.

The decision was announced in a circular issued on Tuesday (10 August) by the general branch of the Cabinet Division.

The circular, signed by Cabinet Division deputy secretary Tania Afroz, said the government had decided that the bulk of the electricity used for office work at the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Planning Commission and the Finance Division must be solar power, and that other government offices must ensure the maximum use of solar power in phases. The order takes immediate effect. All ministries, divisions, commissions, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers concerned have been asked to take the necessary steps.
