Newly elected MPs in reserved women's seats to take oath Sunday

DHAKA — The 49 newly elected members of parliament in the reserved women’s seats of the 13th National Parliament will be sworn in on Sunday, May 3, at 9 p.m. in the oath room of the Parliament Building (east block, level 1).

The Parliament Secretariat announced the schedule on Saturday.

The Election Commission on April 30 published a gazette declaring the 49 lawmakers elected uncontested to the reserved women’s seats of the 13th Parliament.

According to the gazette, 36 lawmakers were elected from the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies based on the distribution of seats among political parties and coalitions.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies elected 12, and one woman MP was elected from a coalition of six independent lawmakers.

Those elected from the BNP coalition are: Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akhter Ranu, Newaz Halima Arli, Mosa. Farida Yasmin, Bilquis Islam, Sakila Farzana, Helen Jerin Khan, Nilofar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Jiba Amina Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Mosa. Sabira Sultana, Sansila Jebrin, Sanjida Islam, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Hoque, Anna Minj, Suborna Sikder, Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, Mosammat Shammi Akhter, Ferdousi Ahmed, Bithika Binte Hosain, Mosa. Suraiya Jerin, Mansura Akhter, Joharat Adib Chowdhury, Momtaz Alo, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Mosa. Sanjida Yasmin, Nadia Pathan Papon, Shawkat Ara Akhter, Madhabi Marma, Selina Sultana and Rezeka Sultana.

Those elected from the Jamaat coalition are: Nurunnisa Siddika, Marzia Begum, Sabikunnahar, Mosa. Nazmun Nahar, Mahfuza Hannan, Sajeda Samad, Shamsunnahar Begum, Mardia Momtaz, Rokeya Begum, Mahmuda Alam Mitu, Tasmia Pradhan and Mahbuba Hakim.

Sultana Jasmine was elected from the independent coalition.

The Election Commission on Saturday declared valid the nomination papers of Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti, a Jamaat coalition candidate and leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for the reserved women’s seats of the 13th Parliament.
