The National Citizen Party (NCP) has alleged that eggs were thrown at its chief coordinator, Nasiruddin Patwari, and that his convoy was attacked in the Sadipur area of Benapole in Jashore. Police, however, say no such attack took place.

The NCP said the incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday as Nasiruddin Patwari was returning after inspecting the Sadipur border. Chhatra Shakti leaders Khan Miftahul Mostafiz and Taskin Ahmed and Jubo Shakti leader Rupam Ahsan were injured in the attack, the party said. Nasiruddin Patwari and other party leaders have set out for Dhaka.

Khalid Saifullah Jewel, a member of the NCP’s central convening committee, told Prothom Alo that NCP leaders and activists, led by Nasiruddin Patwari, inspected the Sadipur border on Wednesday in protest against an attempted push-in. At about 11:30 a.m., they exchanged views with local people in the Sadipur area and held a news conference with local journalists. While returning from Sadipur, a few young men first threw eggs at the vehicle and then fled, he said. As they were inside the vehicle, no one was hit by the eggs. Then, on reaching the Benapole land port market, they were attacked again, led by Chhatra Dal, he said.

Ashraf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Police Station, said: “No such attack took place. No one has filed any complaint either. We cannot understand how the NCP leaders are saying this.”

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post accompanied by a photo of a vehicle’s broken window glass, Nasiruddin Patwari wrote: “An attack took place on our vehicle on the way back. The vehicle was vandalized.”
