Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that any Israeli national found in Malaysia will be expelled at once. He said allegations had surfaced that an Israeli was involved in the activities of a private residential community in Forest City, in the southern state of Johor, and that the relevant authorities were investigating; if the allegations were proven, the government would give no quarter.

“If we find any Israeli, we will remove them from the country at once, because we do not recognise Israel as a state,” he said.

According to the Malaysian outlet Free Malaysia Today, Anwar said the relevant authorities were investigating the allegations and that the government would make no compromise if they were proven true.

Israeli passport holders are generally barred from entering Malaysia without special government approval, as the country does not recognise Israel. The Home Ministry has opened an investigation into the allegations concerning a Johor-based startup community, “Network School.”

The immigration department, meanwhile, said all 266 foreigners inspected at an international community in Forest City had valid immigration documents. Forest City is a large mixed-use development built on artificial islands in Johor, near the Singapore border.
