Police raid gambling den in Bhanga, six arrested

Six gamblers have been arrested from a gambling den in a special police drive in Faridpur’s Bhanga.

Police members conducted the special drive in various areas of the upazila on Saturday, led by SI (unarmed) Dewan Shamim Khan of Bhanga police station.

Two bundles of playing cards used for gambling and 24,230 taka in cash were seized.

At one point in the drive, six people were caught red-handed playing cards for money in a shed behind the grocery shop of Md Abul Hossen in Jandi village of Tujarpur union.

Those arrested are Md Hasan, 30; Obaidur, 40; Md Ibrahim, 30; Alim Sheikh, 45; Shakil Matubbar, 30; and Shahidul Molla, 45. All are residents of various villages of Bhanga upazila.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhanga police station, Md Mizanur Rahman, said the process of taking the necessary legal steps, including filing a case against those arrested under the existing law, is under way. Special police drives to suppress crime will continue, he said.
