U.S. public support for Israel has fallen sharply compared with earlier levels, according to a recent poll by The Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. One in three American adults surveyed said they believe Israel is carrying out genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The most striking finding concerns New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The mayor, a sharp critic of Israel, polls more favorably among Jewish Americans than Netanyahu.
Among Jewish Americans surveyed, about 30% said they believe Israel has committed genocide, while 49% said they do not believe genocide occurred.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deeply unpopular among Jews in the United States. Roughly six in 10 Jewish respondents surveyed said they view Netanyahu unfavorably, while about a third view him favorably.
Jewish Americans view New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani more favorably than Netanyahu. According to the poll, 44% of Jewish adults view Mamdani favorably, while 39% of respondents view him unfavorably. Seventeen percent offered no opinion on the matter.
Netanyahu’s popularity is also low among American adults overall. Twenty percent view him favorably, while 38% view him unfavorably. Forty-one percent of respondents offered no opinion on the matter.
