Four Chuadanga businesses fined 65,000 taka

Four businesses have been fined a total of 65,000 taka for various offences in a drive by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection at Alamdanga in Chuadanga.

The drive was conducted in the Asmankhali area of the upazila from 11am to 1.30pm on Tuesday, 28 July, led by the assistant director of the Chuadanga district office, Mohammad Mamunul Hasan.

As part of market monitoring, medicine, fertiliser, gas and seed shops in the area were inspected.

According to sources connected with the drive, Messrs Titas Cycle Store, owned by Md Mofiz Uddin, was fined two thousand taka for selling gas without a licence under the consumer rights protection law; Messrs Samiron Pharmacy, owned by Md Ashraful Alam, was fined 10 thousand taka for selling expired medicines and unlawfully using the title of doctor; and Messrs Rabiul Seed Bhandar, owned by Md Rabiul Haque, was fined three thousand taka for selling expired seed. Messrs Bismillah Homeo Clinic, owned by Md Humayun Kabir, was fined 50 thousand taka for storing and selling expired medicines.

During the drive the assistant director, Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, gave strict instructions to traders in the market to keep price lists updated in a visible place, to buy and sell goods at fixed and reasonable prices, and not to sell expired or substandard goods, medicines, seed and baby food.

Overall support in the drive was given by the outreach officer of the Chuadanga district seed certification agency, Salma Jahan Nipa; the district representative of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Md Rafiqul Islam; and a smart team from the district Ansar battalion.

Confirming the matter, the assistant director of the Chuadanga district office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, said drives of this kind will continue in the public interest and to protect consumer rights.
