Auto-rickshaw driver Ferdaus Mia (60) has been killed by a bus in Gaibandha’s Palashbari, with at least eight of the auto-rickshaw’s passengers injured. The accident took place in the Mather Bazar area of the upazila’s regional highway on Thursday (11 June) afternoon. Ferdaus Mia was a resident of the upazila’s Betkapa union.
Local people said that at noon a battery-run auto-rickshaw was carrying passengers from Gaibandha town toward Palashbari when, on reaching the Mather Bazar area, a bus named Arin Travel coming from Dhaka hit it — throwing passengers onto the road and crushing the auto-rickshaw. Local people rescued them and took them to Gaibandha General Hospital, where the duty doctor declared driver Ferdaus dead; two of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. Palashbari police officer-in-charge (OC) Sarwar Alam said: “On receiving news, police reached the scene and brought the situation under control. The vehicles involved in the accident have been removed.”
