Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said coaching centers will require government approval to operate.
“When our institutions don’t teach properly, coaching centers become necessary. When institutions can’t make use of the time, students go to coaching,” the minister said at a press conference at the education ministry on Wednesday (July 1), held to ensure the 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations are conducted in a fair, orderly, and cheating-free environment.
The minister said the government is working to regulate coaching centers and that it is the state’s responsibility to determine whether coaching is harmful.
He also addressed concerns about the security of British Council digital question papers, saying he personally visited the BG Press. The number of examiners has been increased, and their work will be monitored to ensure papers are evaluated properly, he said. On disaster preparedness, the minister said local administrations will handle any disruptions, noting that similar situations during the SSC examinations were managed successfully by local authorities.
Also present were Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Director General Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, and Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleq.
A total of 1,270,583 candidates will sit for the examinations across all education boards this year: 1,069,714 under the nine general secondary and higher secondary boards, 92,905 under the madrasa board, and 107,964 under the technical board. Of the total, 621,969 are male and 648,614 are female. The examinations will be held at 2,697 centers from 9,439 institutions, covering 77 subjects over 21 days. All nine general boards will use identical question papers.
CCTV cameras have been installed at all centers, and a monitoring cell has been set up at the education ministry. Police officers on duty at centers will carry body-worn cameras. Regular classes will continue on days when no examinations are scheduled.
