Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut has again spoken out — this time over the student movement demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protesters held a march on parliament last Monday. The Cockroach Janata Party has been staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over the same demand for about a month, where Sonam Wangchuk had been on hunger strike. With Delhi tense, Kangana Ranaut spoke out, criticising the Cockroach Janata Party and the young protesters in her characteristic style.
Anandabazar and other Indian media reported her saying that who stays in office and who does not cannot be decided by pressuring the government through demonstrations.
Speaking to reporters outside parliament, she said parliament is the proper place to discuss all matters of public interest. Asked about the movement demanding the education minister’s resignation over the NEET paper leak, Kangana said: “A session of parliament is a place where we can discuss every issue in detail and raise the necessary questions.”
Kangana also claimed the protests were disrupting parliament’s work. “The government that the people elected by voting has the right to decide how it will function,” she said. “It is not right to put pressure on the government by protesting. They have the right to decide how they will run the country. If there is so much objection, then stand in the election yourselves. I know no one has that courage. So gradually everyone will come back to the BJP and Sanatan culture, because this is our own culture. Everything else is borrowed from outside.”
Her remarks have drawn the anger of the protesters, who say the actor’s view is not impartial.
