Nurunnahar Nimni became the eighth Bangladeshi to summit Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. The woman climber reached the summit at 5:24 a.m. Nepal time on Wednesday and raised the red-and-green flag of Bangladesh, the Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club confirmed.
Nimni is the first Bangladeshi woman to summit Everest in 14 years, since Nishat Majumdar and Wasfia Nazreen reached the top in 2012. She was the sole Bangladeshi climber on this year’s expedition.
Nimni left Dhaka for Nepal on April 11. After facing adverse weather several times, she resumed the summit push on May 25. Climbing from Camp 4, she reached the world’s highest peak early Wednesday.
Musa Ibrahim was the first Bangladeshi to summit Everest, reaching the peak on May 23, 2010. M.A. Muhit followed in 2011 and 2012, summiting twice. Nishat Majumdar and Wasfia Nazreen reached the summit in 2012. Sajal Khaled, the fifth Bangladeshi summiteer, died descending from the peak on May 20, 2013.
After an 11-year gap, Babar Ali raised the Bangladeshi flag atop Everest in 2024. In 2025, Ikramul Hassan Shakil reached the summit on foot from Cox’s Bazar beach. Nimni is the sole Bangladeshi climber to summit Everest this season.
