A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a writ at the High Court challenging the decision to cancel the license of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Maghbazar, Dhaka.
Advocate Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ at the Supreme Court on Monday.
Mohammad Shishir Manir, a lawyer for the Ad-Din hospital authorities, said the hospital authorities had no connection with the filing of the writ.
Earlier, on June 11, the government canceled the license of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Maghbazar, Dhaka. A directive from the Directorate General of Health Services said the hospital would have 30 days to appeal against the cancellation order.
On the morning of May 27, six newborns died in the post-operative ward of Ad-Din hospital. They were between one and three days old. The newborns had not yet been named and were being identified by their mothers’ names. Over the deaths, Habibur Rahman, the father of one of the dead newborns, filed a case at Ramna police station alleging death due to negligence.
The Health Ministry quickly formed a three-member committee to investigate. On May 30, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said the investigation committee would submit a full report on June 3.
The hospital authorities also formed an internal investigation committee. They had announced that they would make the report public. They later backed away from that decision, saying the report would be submitted to the Health Ministry rather than published.
