The veteran Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi has suddenly fallen ill and been admitted to hospital. Because of her illness she is currently in isolation on her doctor’s advice. She has contracted swine flu. For that reason she was also unable to take part in a protest programme in the country’s continuing student movement, which she had earlier promised to attend.
She was due to be present at a protest meeting organised by a student organisation. Shabana Azmi had wanted to go there and stand beside the students. But with swine flu suddenly detected, her doctor has told her not to leave the house. She has been advised to remain in isolation so that the infection does not spread to others.
In a post on social media, Shabana Azmi said she was disappointed at being unable to attend the event. Although she cannot be physically present, she said, her support for the students will always be there. She also asked everyone to pray for her quick recovery.
