Bangladesh has made history with a Test win on Australian soil. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side beat Australia by nine wickets in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin, taking a 1-0 series lead.
After building a massive 228-run lead in the first innings, Bangladesh bowled Australia out for 284 in the second innings, leaving the tourists a target of just 57 runs. First-innings centurion Tanzid Hasan Tamim fell for a duck after facing only five balls, but it caused no trouble — Bangladesh reached their target having lost just one wicket in 14.2 overs.
With this historic win, Bangladesh became only the second Asian team to win a Test on Australian soil in the past 30 years. Before this, only India had managed a Test win in Australia during that span. Pakistan’s last win in Australia came in November-December 1995.
Pakistan needed seven attempts to record their first Test win on Australian soil. India had to wait until their 12th Test. Bangladesh, by contrast, achieved the feat in just their third Test in Australia.
Only England needed fewer matches than Bangladesh to record their first Test win on Australian soil.
Before Sunday’s memorable win in Darwin, Bangladesh had played just two Tests on Australian soil, both in July 2003. Australia won both by an innings.

Meanwhile, spin all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz produced an outstanding bowling performance in the second innings, taking 5 wickets for 66 runs.
Before taking his five-wicket haul, Miraz also made a crucial contribution with the bat. Batting at number seven, he scored 65 off 154 balls. Earlier, Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored 101 off 197 balls, and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made 84 off 126 balls.
