Bangladesh is a very trusted friend of China, envoy says

Yao Wen, China’s ambassador in Dhaka, has paid a farewell courtesy call on the prime minister’s defence adviser, Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam.

The meeting took place on Tuesday (September 29) at the defence adviser’s office in the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka cantonment, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate said.

During the farewell meeting, the defence adviser praised the Chinese ambassador’s constructive role and contribution in taking bilateral and defence relations between the two countries to new heights during his time in Bangladesh. He thanked China for its continued support for the modernisation, institutional capacity and professional development of Bangladesh’s armed forces.

He also expressed hope that the scope of defence, military training and joint technology initiatives between the two countries would grow faster and stronger in the coming days.

The outgoing ambassador said Bangladesh is a very trusted friend of China and one of its most important development and strategic partners. He gratefully recalled the full cooperation he received from the defence adviser and the armed forces during his posting, and expressed hope that mutual trust, historic friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries would keep growing.
