The government has taken an initiative to include music, drama, dance and fine and applied arts in the primary-school curriculum. The subjects will be fully incorporated into primary education under the new curriculum in 2028, and an “Arts and Culture” textbook will be introduced for grade 4 students from 2027. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj gave the information at an exchange meeting organised by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Wednesday (10 June), attended by teachers of music, dance, drama and fine-arts departments at various universities and relevant specialists.

The state minister said that, in line with the government’s education philosophy, students will be developed so that they can grow as global citizens on the one hand and acquire the skills needed for future working life on the other. Arts, culture and sports-based education will play an important role in students’ overall development, he said.

Bobby Hajjaj said the expansion of music, dance and sports-based education at the primary level would require a large number of specialised teachers and trainers, creating new employment opportunities for young people educated in music, dance, fine arts, drama and sports. He expressed hope that about 50,000 to 60,000 new jobs could be created in the sector over the next five years.
