TANGAIL, Sept. 26 — A man named Chan Mia died after being stung by hornets in Nagarpur, Tangail. His family, however, claimed he died because of negligence in treatment.

He died around 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, while receiving treatment at Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex.

Chan Mia was a resident of Sribaratia village in Mamudnagar union of the upazila.

According to the family, Chan Mia climbed a palm tree at his home Friday afternoon to clean it. Several hornets from a nest in the tree attacked him and stung him in multiple places on his body. He quickly came down from the tree. Seeing his condition was serious, family members quickly took him to Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex. He died there around 5 p.m. while under treatment.

Family members alleged that Chan Mia was not given proper treatment after admission to the hospital. They said his condition worsened because proper treatment was not provided. If doctors had said they could not treat him, the family would have taken him elsewhere for better care, they said. They blamed doctors’ negligence for his death and demanded a proper investigation and punishment of those responsible.

Duty doctor Dr. Rifat Mahbub of Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex said Chan Mia suddenly went into shock around 5 p.m. He said doctors tried repeatedly but could not save him.
