The body of a 51-year-old woman, Nazma Alam, has been recovered, bound hand and foot and with a rope wound around her neck, from a house in the Shibnathpara area of Tangail town. Her lifeless body was found in a bloodied state on a sofa in the drawing room of her own home.

Police recovered the body at midday on Sunday (28 June) and sent it to the morgue. The deceased, Nazma Alam, was the wife of Shafiul Alam Shahin, a veterinary doctor in the area.

Relatives of the deceased said her husband, Dr Shafiul Alam, had left for his office in the morning. When he later called Nazma’s mobile phone several times and got no response, he contacted the tenant on the ground floor of the house; the tenant went up to the third-floor flat and found Nazma’s body lying bound hand and foot, a rope around her neck, in a bloodied state. Family members and police were informed at once. Police recovered the body and sent it to the Tangail General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Tangail additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle) HM Mahbub Rezwan Siddiqui said: “This is undoubtedly a murder. The matter is being investigated with importance. Police operations are under way to identify and arrest those involved.”
