Allegations have surfaced that ordinary villagers in Hudapara village, Karpasdanga union, Damurhuda upazila, Chuadanga, are being harassed by police over false drug-trafficking accusations. Victims and local residents have raised the harassment allegation against a man named Babor Ali, who claims to be a BNP leader.

Villagers gathered collectively in Hudapara South Para on Tuesday (July 7) afternoon to voice this anger and protest to the media.

According to the complaint, Babor Ali of Hudapara village has brought false drug-trafficking allegations against several people, including Shahin (30), son of the late member Ayub Ali of Hudapara South Para; Tariqul Islam (28), a hair trader by profession and son of Wali Sheikh; Sweet (35), son of Mahat Halsana; Nazrul Islam, son of Golam Halsana; Shahinur Sheikh (40), wife of Azad Sheikh; Asehar (45); and Zahir Uddin Joni, among others. The complainants claim Babor Ali is using his influence to have police unjustly harass these innocent villagers.

Angry villagers told media that after the political change of August 5, the accused Babor Ali suddenly began identifying himself as a BNP leader. Using this new political identity as a shield, he has continued to carry out such harassment in the area, though he was never previously seen actively involved in BNP politics.

Appearing before the media, ordinary residents of Hudapara village made a strong appeal to senior administration officials to ensure, through a neutral and proper investigation, that the actual drug traffickers in the Hudapara area are identified and brought to justice.

They also demanded that no innocent villager be subjected to police harassment or harassment-motivated cases based solely on false and motivated allegations without a proper investigation.

The accused, Babor Ali, said the fallen Awami League people are spreading these false rumors to discredit him. He further claimed he has contact with the district BNP, saying he has set up a BNP office there that district BNP leaders inaugurated.

Local conscious citizens consider it deeply concerning that a sensitive matter such as drug law is being used to settle personal or political scores. They have called for immediate local administration intervention to investigate and stop this harassment.
