BETAGI, Barguna — Syeda Juweli Akhter Monika, an assistant teacher at Betagi Girls’ School and College, has been named the top class teacher in Barishal division for National Education Week 2026, officials said.

Juweli will represent the division at the national round Monday, Jan. 19, at the Government Teachers’ Training College in Dhaka, competing against winning class teachers from other divisions.

The divisional contest was held earlier on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the conference room of the Barishal divisional commissioner’s office, drawing district-level winners from across the division. Juweli was selected on the basis of 12 criteria, including subject knowledge, academic achievement, institutional approach and assessment skill.

Juweli completed a master’s degree in mathematics from Eden Mohila College and joined Betagi Girls’ School and College as an assistant teacher in 2013. Colleagues, students, parents and others in the education sector have congratulated her on the award.

Juweli said she believed the recognition of a teacher’s achievement energizes her work, with benefits for her institution and for nation-building. She described the government’s National Education Week as a “dynamic initiative.”
