PATHORGHATA, Barguna — A fisherman hooked a 23.5-kilogram pangas with a rod in Pathorghata upazila Friday, selling the fish for 23,500 taka at the local market, residents said.
The fish was caught around 11 a.m. at the Kalmegha bazaar sluice gate area by Riaz Hossain, a local fisherman.
Hossain said he had been waiting at the sluice gate with his rod since morning, as he does most days. After a long wait, he felt a hard pull on the line and realized a large fish had taken the bait. When he pulled in the line he saw the oversized pangas, he said.
He took the fish to the local Kalmegha bazaar around noon. Md. Raju Mia, a fish trader, bought it for 1,000 taka per kilogram, paying a total of 23,500 taka.
Raju Mia said the pangas was of good quality and he expected to sell it in Dhaka for about 1,500 taka per kilogram. The fish was transported to Dhaka the same afternoon, he said.
