PIROJPUR — Two sons of the late Jamaat-e-Islami leader Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee filed nomination papers to contest two Pirojpur seats as Jamaat candidates on the last day of submissions, officials said.

Masud Sayedee and Shamim Sayedee submitted their papers at the district returning officer’s office at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, accompanied by leaders of the district Jamaat-e-Islami.

Masud Sayedee will contest the Pirojpur-1 seat (Sadar, Nazirpur, Indurkani), while his elder brother Shamim Sayedee will contest Pirojpur-2 (Nesarabad, Kaukhali, Bhandaria).

“Today, in a joyful atmosphere, my elder brother Shamim Sayedee and I submitted nomination papers,” Masud Sayedee said. “In truth, filing these papers is very painful for us, because my martyred father Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee was supposed to contest this seat. Neither I nor my brother was supposed to run here. We have a painful history, the people know it, and the people will surely take appropriate action in due time.”

He said the brothers entered the race to build the kind of Bangladesh that the current generation envisions. “We want to build a Bangladesh free of exploitation and inequality. We want a Bangladesh free of hegemony and corruption. We will work toward building that Bangladesh, and God willing, the people will give their verdict at the appropriate time and fulfill the people’s aspirations.”
