FARIDPUR — A truck driver and his assistant were killed and 10 bus passengers were injured when a passenger bus and a goods truck collided head-on on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila on Saturday morning, police said.
The crash occurred in front of the Naopara livestock office in Bhanga municipality.
The dead were identified as Nabin Sheikh, 22, the truck driver, and his assistant Rashed, 30. Nabin was from the Dhalar Mor area on the outskirts of Faridpur town.
Highway police and fire service sources said the head-on collision occurred around 10 a.m. when a Saptabarna Liza Paribahan passenger bus traveling from Dhaka to Rajbari struck a goods truck heading toward Dhaka. The fronts of both vehicles were crumpled, and the truck assistant died at the scene, they said. The driver died after being taken to hospital.
Confirming the incident, Md. Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said the two bodies had been placed in the hospital morgue. The bus and truck have been impounded, he said.
