FARIDPUR, Pabna — Two children drowned while bathing in the Baral river in Pabna’s Faridpur upazila on Friday, police said.
The victims were identified as Tinni Khatun, 11, daughter of local councillor Abu Sama, and Zubair Ahmed, 7, son of Alamgir Hossain. The two were cousins.
Residents said the children entered the Baral river to bathe around 2 p.m., without their families’ knowledge, near their home in the Uttar Thanapara area of the upazila. Unable to swim, they were swept away. When the children could not be found at home, relatives and neighbors began searching for them.
Their bodies were recovered from the river in the afternoon. They were taken to the Gopalnagar government health center, where the attending doctor declared both children dead.
Hasnat Jaman, officer-in-charge of Faridpur police station, said: “The bodies have been handed over to the families as no complaint was filed.”
