KISHOREGANJ — Kishoreganj-4 MP Advocate Mohammad Fazlur Rahman warned that strict action would be taken against anyone whose negligence or irregularities in flood-protection embankment work caused farmers’ land to be submerged.
“If even one piece of land is submerged due to negligence on the embankment work, I will not spare anyone,” Rahman, a freedom fighter who represents the Itna, Mithamoin and Astagram constituency, said. “The administration must ensure whatever is needed to protect farmers’ hard-earned crops.”
Rahman, who won a landslide victory as the BNP-nominated candidate in the 13th parliamentary election, made the remarks Thursday, March 5, as chief guest at a meeting with government officials in Kishoreganj’s Itna upazila. The session was part of his oversight activities in his constituency.
Rahman said the livelihoods of people in the haor region depended entirely on the boro rice crop and that substandard work or negligence in embankment construction would not be tolerated.
He said the work must be completed within the set deadline, that regular monitoring would be intensified to maintain quality, and that immediate legal action would be taken if any irregularity was found.
The meeting was chaired by Itna Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Raihanul Islam. Advocate Umme Kulsum Rekha, Rahman’s wife, attended as a special guest.
