KATIADI, Bangladesh — The Bangladeshi killed in an Iranian missile strike in Saudi Arabia has been identified as Bachchu Mia, 35, a resident of Katiadi upazila in Kishoreganj.

An Iranian missile struck the Saudi Arabian city of Al Kharj just before iftar on Sunday, March 8. The explosion damaged a workers’ camp belonging to Al Tuwaiq Baladiya Co., killing Bachchu Mia.

Bachchu Mia was the son of Rais Uddin of Paschim Fekamara village in Jalalpur union of Katiadi upazila in Kishoreganj district. He had been working in Saudi Arabia to support his family.

Family sources said Bachchu Mia leaves behind two daughters. One of them is mentally disabled. He was the sole earner in the family. His death has cast a pall of grief over his family and the area.

Bachchu Mia was known as a worker for the Saudi Arabia chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami. He had been involved with Jamaat-e-Islami politics while in Bangladesh as well, confirmed Mozammel Hoque Joarder, professor and amir of the Katiadi upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Imran Hussain, former president of the Katiadi upazila Chhatra Shibir and currently a resident of Mecca, confirmed the matter and said that the area where the missile struck contains a U.S. military base.

Bachchu Mia’s sudden death has caused deep grief among his family, relatives and local residents.
