KISHOREGANJ — A 25-year-old man hacked his father to death with a machete to obtain money for drugs in Kishoreganj’s Tarail upazila, police said.

The killing took place early Sunday, Feb. 1, in Darijahangirpur village (Madhyapara) of Tarail-Sachail Sadar union in the upazila.

The victim was identified as Ramzan Ali, 45. The accused is his elder son, Juwel Mia, 25.

Juwel struck his father indiscriminately on the head and other parts of the body with a sharp machete in the early hours, police said. Neighbors rushing to the scene after hearing screams caught Juwel red-handed and informed police. Officers later arrived and took the suspect into custody, seizing the machete.

Ramzan was taken to Tarail Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

Tarail Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Jalal Uddin said the initial investigation indicated Juwel was a drug addict and that the killing followed a dispute between father and son over money for drugs. The body was sent to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, and a murder case is being filed at the police station, he said.
