KAHALU, Bangladesh — A 45-year-old man known to police as a top listed criminal was beaten to death with sticks by his wife and stepson in Bogura’s Kahalu upazila, a week after he was released from jail on bail.
The dead man, Milon Rahman, also known as Tiger Milon, had been freed on bail a week earlier.
Police arrested his wife, Meghna Begum, and her son Shamim immediately after the killing, which took place Thursday night in Palpara village of Kahalu upazila.
Kahalu police station officer-in-charge Nitai Chandra Sarkar said Milon and Meghna had been married for three years, each entering their third marriage. The couple had been quarreling over various matters since the wedding. Milon was on the police list of top criminals and faced about 10 cases, including for murder and drugs. He was arrested recently in a case of assault and was released on bail a week ago, the OC said.
Around 8 p.m. Thursday, Milon and Meghna got into an argument. On hearing of it, Meghna’s son from her first marriage, Shamim, arrived and sided with his mother, striking Milon several times on the head with a stick. Milon was seriously injured. Local residents took him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment at about 10 p.m. Police arrested Meghna and her son Shamim immediately afterward.
Sarkar, the Kahalu OC, said the dead man’s mother, Morjina Begum, filed a case against Meghna and her son Shamim. The arrested pair were sent to jail through a court on Friday.
