SARIAKANDI, Bangladesh — Two Jubo Dal leaders in Bogura’s Sonatala upazila have been removed from their party posts for holding a procession and rally against the BNP’s likely candidate for the Bogura-1 (Sonatala-Sariakandi) constituency, branding him an Awami League collaborator and vowing to resist him.

Bogura district Jubo Dal general secretary Abu Hasan confirmed the move on Monday.

Those removed are Shamim Hossain, convener of the Balua union Jubo Dal in Sonatala upazila, and Abdus Salam, joint convener.

A notice signed by district Jubo Dal president Jahangir Alam and general secretary Abu Hasan said Shamim Hossain and Abdus Salam were being relieved of their posts on specific charges of breaching party discipline. They will refrain from all party activities until further notice, the notice said.

District Jubo Dal general secretary Abu Hasan said that on Nov. 8, Shamim Hossain and Abdus Salam led a procession and rally with slogans against Kazi Rafiqul Islam, the BNP’s announced candidate for the Bogura-1 (Sonatala-Sariakandi) seat. Once the complaint was substantiated with evidence, organizational action was taken against them, he said.

Asked about the expulsion, Shamim Hossain said: “I do not know what charges have been brought against me. No explanation was sought before I was expelled.”

Shamim added: “There are 12 to 14 cases against me. After Aug. 5 last year, many new leaders have emerged in the BNP. Even though I have been expelled from the Jubo Dal, I am still the student affairs secretary of the union BNP. So there is no bar to my taking part in party programs.”
