Dengue deaths pass 300 as daily admissions hit year’s high

Four more people have died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours. In the same period 2,193 people were admitted to hospital with the disease, the highest in a day this year. A total of 303 people have now died of dengue this year.

The figures were given on Sunday, 11 October, in the regular dengue bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services. According to the directorate, 58 people died in the first 10 days of October. September saw the most deaths, 148, with 43 in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May and two each in January and February.

The bulletin said 2,193 people with dengue were admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours from 8am on Saturday. That takes the number of patients admitted to hospital this year to 99,275. In the past 24 hours 1,796 people left hospital after recovering, and 92,403 have gone home recovered so far.

Dhaka division had the most admissions in the past 24 hours, 1,030. There were also 293 in Chattogram, 304 in Khulna, 236 in Barishal, 160 in Rajshahi, 70 in Mymensingh and 84 in Rangpur.
