India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the government had no involvement in a New Delhi event scheduled to feature a virtual address by ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
A ministry spokesperson said Tuesday that a private organization was arranging the event and that it had no connection to the Indian government.
Hasina is scheduled to address an event organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia on Aug. 5, the second anniversary of the student-led uprising. Bangladesh had asked New Delhi to explain the Indian government’s position on the event.
