Two more children with measles symptoms died in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,019 children were reported with confirmed measles or related symptoms, the Directorate General of Health Services said Tuesday.

The figures were published Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 4, in the agency’s latest measles update.

The report said 75 children with measles symptoms and another 96 children with confirmed measles had died nationwide since March 15. It then gave a combined death toll of 849, a figure that does not match the two component counts, which add up to 171.

In the past 24 hours, 123 children had confirmed measles and 896 had measles symptoms, the agency said. Eighty-six children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 998 recovered and returned home.

Since March 15, the agency has recorded 131,946 suspected measles cases and 16,531 confirmed cases. It said 114,393 children had been hospitalized and 110,187 of them had recovered and been discharged.
