Shiba Shanu elected president of Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association

Villain actor Shiba Shanu has been elected president of the Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association, while actor Joy Chowdhury won the general secretary position, the election commissioner announced early Saturday.

Shiba Shanu won the presidency with 243 votes, defeating his closest rival Arman, who received 173 votes. Joy Chowdhury secured the general secretary post with 237 votes against Romana Islam Mukti’s 179.

Other elected officials include co-presidents D.A. Tayeb (269 votes) and Ilias Kobra (216), co-general secretary Subrata (266), organizational secretary Soni Rahman (233), international affairs secretary M.A. Parvez Chowdhury Abir (272), office and publicity secretary Jackie Alamgir (221), culture and sports secretary Maruf Akib (226), and treasurer Kamal (221).

Eleven executive committee members were also elected, led by Kayes Arzu with 323 votes. Others include Ali Raj (296), Nasreen (289), Jasmine Akter (280), Shipon Mitra (248), Sushanta (232), Raka Alam (227), Shirin Shila (225), Chikon Ali (224), Kabila (221), and Farhad (216).

Voting took place on Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 480 of the association’s 573 eligible members casting their ballots. Producer Khorshed Alam Khosru served as chief election commissioner.
