Abhinoy Shilpi Sangho Bangladesh, the actors’ association, has suspended the memberships of popular actresses Tanjin Tisha and Samia Othoi indefinitely for breaching discipline and defying a decision of its arbitration committee.

According to the association, it has an independent arbitration committee to settle disputes and conflicts among actors. Tanjin Tisha and Samia Othoi were brought before it over the situation that had arisen. The committee decided that they would issue a statement apologising and send a video message, but they later carried out neither decision.

The arbitration committee sent them two letters in a row but received no reply, and the letters were returned. Attempts to reach them by mobile phone also drew no response. After waiting a long time, the arbitration committee recommended to the executive committee that their memberships be suspended. The executive committee later adopted the recommendation unanimously at a meeting.

The association said the two had been served a show-cause notice on 7 July. As no reply came, it decided under its constitution to suspend their memberships indefinitely. It issued a formal suspension notice in the names of Tanjin Tisha and Samia Othoi on 4 October.

The association also said it is committed to maintaining discipline at work and in the workplace, and expressed the hope that mutual respect, fellowship, discipline and affection among artists, as members of the same family, would remain intact.
