Singer Parsha Mahjabeen has married, but while announcing the news she has chosen not to reveal who the groom is. She posted a photo of herself in wedding clothes with the groom on Instagram, his face covered with flowers.

Answering those curious about the groom, Parsha wrote in jest that his face had been hidden “to protect him from the evil eye of women outside the family”, that she did not favour “spreading fitna in society by displaying a man’s beauty and youth in public”, and asked people not to embarrass her or her family by asking who he is.

Parsha said their akd, the marriage contract, took place abroad on 26 October. Her family could not attend because of visa problems, though the groom’s family was there. They plan to hold the remaining wedding ceremonies with both families, relatives and friends within the next six months.

She also explained why she is keeping her husband’s identity secret. “If I say his name, everyone will recognise him, so I do not want to say it for now,” she said. “Because I do not want to reveal who he is, I covered his face with flowers in the photo. I call him ‘priyo’, and he calls me ‘priyo’ too.” Priyo means beloved.

The two met about a year ago while travelling abroad. After they began talking, Parsha told her family about her choice, and they had no objection.

Parsha Mahjabeen came to attention during the quota reform movement with her song ‘Cholo Bhule Jai’. Alongside music, the young artist has also made a name in acting. She is in the news again with her wedding, but for now she wants to keep her husband’s identity out of view.
