Students are protesting at several places in the capital demanding the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon over the holding of the HSC and equivalent examinations in disastrous weather. At about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, examinees blocked roads and protested at the BNS Center in the capital’s Uttara and at the Science Lab intersection. They held the protest program as previously announced.

Students of 12 to 15 colleges, including Dhaka City College, Dhaka Ideal College, Government Bangla College, Siddheswari Girls’ College, Lalmatia School and College, Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College and BF Shaheen College, took part in the blockade. The protest created severe traffic jams on the roads at Science Lab, New Market, Dhanmondi and surrounding areas, causing suffering to ordinary passengers and pedestrians. During the protest, the demonstrators were heard chanting slogans such as “One point, one demand — Milon’s resignation,” “One two three four, Milon give up your seat,” and others.

The protesting students demanded the education minister’s resignation within 24 hours, and announced that they would launch tougher programs if their demand was not met.
