President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was committed to defending its borders but did not intend to expand the ongoing war, according to a report by state broadcaster IRIB.

Pezeshkian made the remarks at the launch of the second phase of a national family-medicine and referral-system plan. He said Iran needed to place greater emphasis on domestic strength and national unity under current conditions.

He said the country should build a society that gives an enemy no opportunity to entice or infiltrate people, divide the social structure or destroy it.

Public unity was important to protecting national security and stability, Pezeshkian said.

His remarks came amid continuing tension between Iran and the United States. Tehran has repeatedly said it will act to defend its territory and interests but does not seek to spread the regional conflict further.
